The SEAOCC (Structural Engineers of Central California) Drone Club is holding an instructional workshop on Micro-quad drone setup which will cover:

  • Transmitter & flightcontroller Software & firmware setup.
  • FPV goggle setup.
  • Safe handling & charging of Lithium Polymer Batteries.

The goal is to get a Pre-built bind and fly micro-class quadcopter configured and flying at the end of workshop.

Participants will provide their own working Transmitter, lipo batteries, charger, micro size quadcopter with receiver installed, and laptop.

We will mainly be following the YouTube tutorials by Joshua Bardwell

--------------------

Here’s my suggested list, but there are many other makes/models on the market, it’s up to you:

Transmitter:

I would suggest obtaining this FrSky brand Tx: Taranis QX7 For the price, I think this is the best value out there. The Club purchased 2 of these. Ali has one, and someone from NSSE can use the 2nd.  Here’s a review of this Tx: qx7 review.

Along with the QX7, you will also need to purchase a battery, charger, and any micro sd-card (8 GB & under is fine, you don’t need much storage).

Micro-class Quad:

We are using the BetaFPV75x quad. The receiver is included, but make sure you choose FrSky receiver option.

Along with the quad, we will use these lipo batteries. I suggest 2 batteries at a minimum. These are only 2cell lipos to keep things ‘manageable’. If you want more power, go to a 3cell lipo here, but you may need to cut away some of the battery bay to make room. You will only get roughly 4 minutes of flight with a battery. You will need extra props here, whatever color you like. I suggest at least 2 sets, maybe more if you plan on frequent hard crashes.
