SAC-100: Intro to Manual Milling
What You'll Learn
This class is for those interested in using the Grizzly vertical mill. It covers the basics of mill components, setup, and use.
A mill is used to make precision parts through material removal. Operating a manual machine requires a skilled machinist with a "sense of feel." Though class will not make you a machinist, it will give you the foundations of operating a vertical mill. A particular focus will be given to safety for the operator and the machine.

- Mill anatomy
- Cutting tools
- Workholding
- Speeds and feeds
- Climb vs. traditional cutting
- Milling operations
- Basic measurement and accuracy

Important Information
This class is limited to 4 students. Sign up early because it fills fast!
Long pants and closed toe shoes or leather boots are ideal. Don’t wear anything that you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring safety glasses/hearing protection if you have them.
This class is required for those wanting to use Hacker Lab Sacramento's metal shop.
